Culinary Arts is another CTE program offered at Twin Lakes High School. It teaches students knife skills, how to read a recipe, communication in groups, good diet = better health, how to budget groceries, the ease of cooking healthier food, and opportunities to experience food from other cultures.
The classes available are: Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastries, Nutrition, and Principles of Culinary. After course completion, students will be able to provide meals for themselves and be able to know how to use what food they have to make nutritious meals that fill them up on a budget.
Mr. Jimmy Gemino joined the TLHS Faculty this year and is looking forward to sharing his extensive professional experience with his students. Mr. Gemino attended the Culinary Art Institute of Indianapolis, worked 17 years in the food industry, was the head Baker at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, worked in a restaurant for many years, and was a Dietary Food Service Manager for the past seven years. He has been a youth baseball director, coached baseball, football, wrestling, and softball. And was also a foster parent.
“How you do anything is how you do everything. Any job you are at even if it’s not the one you want to end up at you do it like the job you hope to have one day,” shared Gemino. “So that when you arrive at your dream job you are already working at 100% of your expectations. Also be the reason people smile because theirs is no such thing as a small act of kindness.”
Culinary classes are open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12. “I believe it’s important for kids to work as a team now whether they do sports or group work in class so they are better communicators,” added Gemino. “In the work force whatever job they may have, communication is key.”
